TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE THROUGH GREYHOUND CORPORATION
(For air transportation, see bottom of page.)

All requests for travel must come from the transplant coordinator or social worker on behalf of solid organ transplant patients.  One companion voucher is provided when medically necessary, or if the patient is a minor.   Travel is for the contiguous United States.  All exceptions or questions will be considered and should be directed to AOTA.  For travel assistance by plane, please scroll to the bottom of the page for links.

AOTA is very grateful to Greyhound Bus Lines for continuously providing complimentary round trip vouchers each year. With their sponsorship, AOTA is able to help save lives and achieve its goal to help defray out-of-pocket expenses for transplant patients.

Our preferred method of contact is by email at aotaonline@gmail.com. You may also contact us at :  832-930-AOTA (2682). Calls go to voice mail and are returned as soon as our volunteers are able to return the call.

When a patient requests travel between two cities, AOTA requests that the transplant coordinator or social worker complete the transportation form. Once the form is received, AOTA is able to book the patient's travel round trip on Greyhound. We recommend, however, that the social worker contact us directly for the fastest service. In some states, such as Michigan, Greyhound partners with other bus carriers. At this time, Greyhound is unable to extend their community outreach program to other bus carriers. We are only able to arrange complimentary bus travel with the Greyhound buses.

Since 1986, AOTA has coordinated free transportation for over 1,000 patients to and from U.S. transplant centers for evaluation, surgery and aftercare.

AIR TRANSPORTATION

Due to budget cuts in the airline industry, Continental Airlines had to cut their support to AOTA in 2004. We continue to work to obtain airline support through other sources.

Here are two transportation resources with links for free flight assistance:

Miracle Flight for Kids - they also serve adults needing transportation for transplants.
Air Care Alliance (ACA)
